I heard and spotted my first Redwing of the winter yesterday.

Only two of them, flying at that typical journeying altitude. Duly reported to springwtach.

It is dull as ditch water here today and nearly as smelly, I think the local farmer is spreading some fresh or is not so fresh manure on the nearby fields. There are suddenly lost of flies around as well, not just the seasonal cluster / rafter flies but your flies ordinaire as well. The ones that love sheep I think.
